5. Chewbacca Does Get Retribution (Just Not In The Way We Might Have Imagined)

After The Force Awakens, we all wanted to see Chewbacca get his revenge. He had to watch Han Solo be murdered - by his own son. He roared in rage and pain and fired off some shots, but the effects were limited at best. Of course, far more notoriously, then he returned to the Resistance base and got snubbed for a Leia hug! For many old-school fans, The Last Jedi bubbled with opportunities to see our favourite Wookiee shine, or at least get some measure of retribution.

In actual fact, in so much as could be done within the realms of the film, we did get just that. It might not have been the physical attack that many had in mind, but Chewie really did get some great moments in this installment. Obviously, he didn't pull Kylo's arm out of his socket, but his piloting of the Falcon on Crait was damned impressive. When diverting the TIE fighters from the rebel forces, Rey was firing the quad lasers and Chewbacca was flying. He expertly piloted the classic vessel with every bit of the panache of Han, Lando or Rey in other episodes of the franchise, blasting into ever narrower situations and causing the pursuers to crash.

So often, Chewie has sat in the copilot's seat, following orders. Now, in this film, his flying skills are shown to be every bit as attuned as those that have usually given those orders, and he was a true hero in that moment. Just think what would have happened to those infantrymen and ski speeders if the Falcon hadn't lured the First Order starfighters away.
