9 Post-Credits Scenes That Were Axed From Movies

As it stands, Iron Man includes arguably the most famous post-credits scene in cinematic history, so it's odd to think that things almost turned out a bit differently.

While the current scene of Nick Fury inviting Tony Stark to chat about the Avenger Initiative didn't change too much from script to screen, an alternate version of the interaction - which was released online earlier this year - was shot and subsequently axed from the film.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige first showed off the scene at the Saturn Awards, revealing that the stinger was once a few seconds longer, as well as the fact that it almost included a few different line readings.

Fury mentions "radioactive bug bites" "gamma accidents" and "assorted mutants", and where the final version ends with the line "I'm here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative", the alternate version goes past this point, with Tony asking what they're going to be avenging, and Fury replying "whatever the hell we want."

Those specific references to superheroes like Spider-Man and the X-Men were probably dropped because of rights issues. At the time, Disney didn't own Fox and the X-Men, and they weren't in cohorts with Sony and Spider-Man. So, including any references to those characters could have had complicated legal ramifications.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
