6. What Will It Be About?
Part of the winning
Doctor Who formula is that every episode is a clean slate in terms of narrative, genre and characters. It must be both exciting and daunting for a showrunner to plot out the Doctor's upcoming adventures when the series quite literally allows him to go anywhere and any when. As such, the initial process of developing a movie would involve the writer staring at a blank sheet of paper and asking themselves, "Where the f**k do I begin!?" for several hours before writing 'INT. TARDIS', realising the gravity of the situation and mocking up a fevered first draft on the power of adrenaline alone. And lots of coffee. Obviously, they'll be able to come up with something. Naysayers should turn to episodes such as
Voyage of the Damned and
The Day of the Doctor, both cinematic in scale - the latter was even screened in cinemas - and proof enough that
Doctor Who has been continuously stretching the confines of its limited BBC drama budget for years. So, what should the
Doctor Who movie be about? Gallifrey, of course! The Doctor's been on a personal mission to find it since its unexpected return in the 50th anniversary special and Steven Moffat will no doubt want to flog it for all it's worth. Imagine watching our beloved hero step out of the TARDIS to realise that he's finally made it home... on the big screen... in 3D... surrounded by fellow fans... It's what Whovian dreams are made of.
