9 Recent Movies Sent Out To Die

3. Bloodshot

Capone Tom Hardy
Columbia Pictures

While most people outside of comic book nerddom don't know much about Valiant Comics, those who did were incredibly excited for the first film in the Valiant shared cinematic universe. That's what Vin Diesel's Bloodshot was meant to be, but it had a disastrous release in March 2020.

Pre-production for the film began all the way back in 2015, and after being kicked around development hell for a few years, it finally began filming in 2018. Marketing began the following year, though it was fairly limited in comparison with larger releases coming out in early 2020.

Regardless, the film ended up releasing in mid-March 2020, which was a bad time to launch a movie.

Audiences liked it — the ones who saw it anyway, and it holds an audience score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, so there's a good chance it would have done well under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, Sony Pictures decided to power through with its plans to release in March, and it only managed to make $37 million.

It was released digitally two weeks later, but the damage was already done, and it made just shy of $14 million in VOD sales, making Bloodshot a massive bomb when all was said and done.
