9 Remakes That Were More Influential Than The Original
3. The Fly
The original version of The Fly is quite campy and hard to take seriously now, but it does contain the rather creepy fly-man caught in a spider’s web scene. David Cronenberg’s reimagining does away with nearly everything from that version, expect for the concept of teleporters and how it’s not a good idea to get your DNA mixed with a fly.
Cronenberg’s version was a good deal more heartbreaking and is really about a woman caring for someone who’s dying from a terminal illness. The gooey body horror is still disturbing thirty years later (two words; vomit drop) and it’s still considered one of the director’s best works.
It would be a huge influence on the body horror genre, with movies like District 9, Hollow Man, Spider-Man and even a little bit of the Fantastic Four reboot; something Cronenberg must be really flattered by.
