Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo is a classic samurai film starring his the director's favourite leading man Toshiro Mifune, and is considered one of the directors his finest; which for Kurosawa is really saying something. Italian auteur Sergio Leone “borrowed” the story for A Fistful Of Dollars, which starred a young Clint Eastwood as a mysterious gunman.

The movie made Eastwood instantly iconic; thanks to his trademark poncho and the fact he barely has any dialogue. Eastwood would go on to cultivate this image in more westerns like High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales and Pale Rider. Dollars would also spawn a whole host of Man With No Name type movies, inspiring everything from Mad Max, Django, Last Man Standing and even Drive.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
