9 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels That Insulted Great Characters
2. Padme Amidala - Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith
Even those who love to forever throw shade the way of George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy can't argue that Revenge of the Sith is a damn fine movie. That said, there are still elements of Episode III that beggar belief - with the handling of Natalie Portman's Padme being one of the biggest sources of frustration for Star Wars fans.
The Phantom Menace had introduced Padme as a firm but fair leader of her people, and the character was then further fleshed out in Attack of the Clones to be a strong and wise figure who was one of the most important people in the galaxy. By the time of Revenge of the Sith, though, things took a horrendous turn for the Padme character.
In that third leg of Lucas' prequel offerings, Padme largely took a backseat as Anakin's relationships with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Chancellor Palpatine took centre-stage. Instead, Padme's only real purpose in Revenge of the Sith was to play the distraught wife who was there to give birth to a couple of Skywalkers.
Even then, during the birth of Luke and Leia, Padme ends up dying by the completely bullsh*t reasoning of having lost the will to live.
As mentioned, Revenge of the Sith is a genuinely great film, but the handling of Padme Amidala was a massive insult to that brilliant character.
