9 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels That Insulted Great Characters
3. Cyclops - X-Men: The Last Stand
You can't talk about mishandling X-Men characters without shining the spotlight of poor Scott Summers.
The leader of the X-Men, James Marsden's Cyclops had spent the previous two movies being established as the captain of Charles Xavier's band of merry mutants. As such, it was a little jarring to see Cyclops killed off barely half an hour into X-Men: The Last Stand.
Like certain others, Cyclops was another victim of Jean Grey's as she became possessed by the power of the Phoenix. But for a character as vital as Cyclops, it was a massive disrespect to have him killed off, period - yet alone killed off so early, and also killed off in a way that so much was left to the audience's imagination.
For Scott, it was a kiss from his tormented beau Jean that signalled the end, and for those watching all we got was that smooch and then a shot of Cyclops' famed glasses floating. This death just felt like such a weak and appalling way to kill off Cyclops, but this was clearly just one of several missteps made by X-Men: The Last Stand.
