9 Sci-Fi Movies That Flopped Hard In 2022

After two years out of cinemas due to you know, the event, Pixar made its triumphant return to the big screen with Lightyear. Except replace "triumphant" with "underwhelming".

It didn't help that you need a degree in astrophysics to work out the plot of this movie. It's a movie within a movie, based on the "real" Buzz Lightyear that inspired the famous Toy Story character.

Pixar couldn't have picked a more convoluted and tenuous way to get out another movie in their founding franchise. Despite featuring this vocal talent of Chris Evans in the lead role, the movie didn't appeal to anyone.

Ok, that's unfair. It made $226million, but that's up against a $200million budget. Considering that Toy Story 4 took over $1billion on a similar budget, things don't look so peachy for the big-chinned space ranger.

Lightyear's lack of success leaves Pixar in a tricky spot. Their previous effort Turning Red also underperformed, although that had the excuse of being shunted onto Disney+ less than a month after its release.

What is to become of the beloved studio? It's hard to say, but they better pick things up soon because they are currently falling. Without style.
