9 Movie Sequels That Made You Hate Characters You Once Loved

7. Steve Stifler - American Wedding

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull Harrison Ford Karen Allen

All said and done, it was Steve Stifler - the obnoxious and yet strangely likeable jerk played by Sean William Scott - who lingered in your memory banks at the end of American Pie. Yes, the other guys were endearing enough, but it was Stifler who carved himself out as a place as a modern teen movie icon.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense that a character whose only agenda was to prank others and generally act childish could earn an audience's sympathy, but that was his appeal - one that was actually transferred neatly to the second sequel. Stifler somehow wound up as the franchise's funniest and most popular character.

Then American Wedding landed, and the writers misplaced the list of ingredients that had once made Stifler such a success: gone was the affable d*ck of the original films, replaced with a hyperactive buffoon, drained of all his humanity. Suddenly, Sean William Scott was doing an impression of himself doing Stifler, resulting in an insufferable parody. It was the end of the loveable moron as we knew him.
