9 Sequels Trapped In Development Hell (That Will Never Happen)
1. Hellboy III
While the Hellboy movies were never huge hits they still have adorning fans, and no director was better suited to a character than Guillermo Del Toro was to Hellboy.
The second movie ended with Hellboy and Liz quitting the BPRD and expecting twins, but the happy ending was undercut somewhat by the Angel of Death’s earlier prophecy that Hellboy will eventually doom humanity. The story of the third movie would have seen him trying to save mankind by becoming the beast of the apocalypse, and turning darker as a result.
The story is apparently epic and tragic, but it won’t happen for a whole bucketful of reasons. The originals were only modest hits that made most of their money on DVD, but since that market has shrunk nobody will invest. Secondly, Del Toro is the busiest man alive, and Ron Perlman is steadily getting too old to do the amount of action required.
Unless a studio gets behind it soon and Del Toro clears his schedule, Hellboy III will likely join At The Mountains Of Madness and Silent Hills on the tragic list of projects Del Toro never got to make.
