9 Spicy Films That Define The New French Extremity

7. Inside (2007)

inside The directorial debut of both Julienne Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, Inside stars one of France's most iconic actresses Beatrice 'Betty Blue' Dalle as La Femme - a woman who stages a home invasion and attack upon a heavily pregnant woman, Sarah (Alysson Paradis). This is because the two women - both pregnant - were involved in a car crash. Dalle lost her baby and has come to claim Sarah's unborn child. For the two women, it is a fight to the bitter death. Sarah ends up having an impromptu caesarian which kills her, and Dalle, despite having received a face full of aerosol gas on fire, contentedly sits with the baby, rocking it. This film has garnered particular critical praise and a pleased response from the fans. It is a very suspenseful and brutal horror film which is pure horror - it makes the viewer jump and squirm. The storyline is very simple but ingenious and Beatrice Dalle is very scary and convincing in her rile as La Femme. The simplicity of the film works really well and it features oodles of blood and gore for those of you so inclined. A film which definitely proves France is the centre of pioneering horror films in the world.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
