9 Superhero Movies That (Unfortunately) Didn't Get Made

8. Peyton Reed's Fantastic Four

Fantasticfour After the box office success of X2: X-Men United in 2003, Fox began production on one of their other comic properties, The Fantastic Four, under director Peyton Reed and writers Doug Petrie and Mark Frost. What the studio hadn't expected was Reed's unique vision for Marvel's super powered family. His vision was very much in the same vein as his 2003 film Down With Love, a pastiche and homage to the romantic sex comedies of the 1960s. Reed cited A Hard Day's Night as inspiration for the project, which would be a period piece and skip over the origin story of the Fantastic Four, opening with them as full blown celebrities. Fox hated the idea and scrapped it in favor of a more traditional, contemporary take on the characters. Considering what we got were two incredibly bad movies, it would have been interesting to see Reed's take on the project.
