9 Terrible Casting Decisions That Ruined Great Movies

7. Aaron-Taylor Johnson - Godzilla

Part of the excitement for the 2014 version of Godzilla was the promise of watching Bryan Cranston face off against the title beast, and that€™s certainly what the trailers teased.

The first act of the movie sets up this confrontation, with Cranston€™'s scientist teaming up with his son Aaron Taylor-Johnson to find the truth behind his wife'€™s death. By the end of the first act Cranston is dead, Godzilla hasn'€™t even shown up and we€™re left with the blank-eyed stare of €œhero€ Johnson while he bumbles from one set-piece to the next. This was a huge mistake because audiences sympathized and €“ more importantly €“ cared about Cranston'€™s character, and the strongest emotion they could muster for Johnson was indifference; which also summed up his performance.

The movie has so many stunning visuals and awe-inspiring moments it'€™s a pity the human connection is so lacking, and if the filmmakers had switched out Johnson€™s role with Cranston it easily could have been.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
