9 Terrible Movie Characters Who Really Should Have Been Cut

3. Nute Gunray - Star Wars: Episodes I, II and III

Star Wars Ah, the prequels. It was only a matter of time. However, my choice here is not the inanimate wooden puppet used to play a young Anakin Skywalker, or the mess of pixels unceremoniously dubbed Jar Jar Binks (yet). It is the slimy Viceroy of the Trade Federation, the commander of the Droid Armies ('the Baddies', for those not clued up on Star Wars). Episode IV gave us Darth Vader, yes, but it also gave us a fantastic secondary villain in the role of Grand Moff Tarkin. The scheming Imperial officer gets almost as much screen time as Vader and acts as our cold-hearted, tactically brilliant face of the Empire. Our equivalent in Episode I? An inanimate alien in a Pope's hat that speaks in a stilted Oriental accent, a diabolical villain that's downright dumb enough to assume that Jedi cannot hold their breath. Pass.
