9 Theories On How The MCU Could End

3. Avengers Vs. X-Men Brings The Curtain Down

Avengers Vs X-Men
Marvel Comics

Nobody knows where Marvel's MCU franchise or Fox's X-Men series will be by 2028, but there's a perfect way to bring them both to an epic conclusion in the distant future.

An adaptation of the 2012 comic book event Avengers vs. X-Men would be the ideal way to bring the two franchises together on the big screen after many decades apart, wrapping them both up simultaneously.

Obviously there are huge roadblocks since Fox is hard at work building its own X-Men cinematic universe, but who knows what could happen a decade from now. A few years ago, the idea of Spider-Man in the MCU would have been dismissed as folly.

These movie crossover events seem to get bigger in scale all the time. Civil War made the original Avengers' roster look thread-bare and Infinity War is more ambitious yet, so bringing together every character from the X-universe and the MCU would be a natural extension of this, though hugely challenging, no doubt.

Avengers vs. X-Men wasn't a mere novelty versus event in the world of Marvel Comics. It altered the universe's status quo, spawning new titles, killing off major characters and introducing some new ones.

If Marvel and Fox put the time in around the debating table to make this happen on screen, it could have much the same effect, wrapping up two mega franchises in style and paving the way for a new age of superhero films.
