9 Theories On How The MCU Could End

4. The MCU's Timeline Is Alterated

A hard reset isn't the only device Marvel could use to shape its post-MCU future on the big screen. The firm's comic book arm has often used things like time travel to rewrite its status quo and reboot series in a softer sense. The X-Men series is notorious for this and Fox's movies dabbled in it with Days of Future Past.

An epic time-hopping crossover could be the way to bring the MCU curtain down as it would allow Marvel to surgically remove the heroes it needs to retire, whether that's for contractual reasons or simply the age of the actors, and retain others.

Introducing a character like Kang the Conqueror, a cosmic villain with the ability to travel through time and space, would give the MCU the flexibility to do this.

Kang is a classic villain who dates back to the early days of Avengers comic books and his ability to time hop could be a game changer right at the end of the shared universe's life, enabling Marvel to make some drastic tweaks without the usual cynicism attached to reboots and restarts.

Once the timeline has been rejigged, Marvel could then focus on standalone films or a fresh interlinked series while honouring the legacy of the MCU.
