Zack Snyder's ultra-violent adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel has been routinely lambasted for failing to respect the truth of a real-life event, the Battle of Thermopylae, by instead transforming it into a hyper-stylised gorefest complete with mythical creatures and other absurdities.

Why It's Wrong: What a lot of people forget or don't even realise is that 300, as depicted to the audience, is basically a propaganda story, told by Dilios, who was sent back to Sparta by Leonidas to regale the Spartans with a tale of incredible heroism in the face of insane odds.

Sure, you can argue it's tasteless all the same, but to outright declare that the movie's flagrant inaccuracy an act of ignorance or stupidity on the part of the filmmakers is absurd: this is very intentionally a heightened account of the battle that's clearly framed as such to anyone who actually paid attention and, gasp, watched the whole movie.
