9 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Comic Book Movies

3. Cutting The Squid Was Totally Necessary - Watchmen

Watchmen is without question one of the most ambitious comic book movies ever made, and to that end Zack Snyder had to make a few alterations to Alan Moore's incredible source material to make it work on-screen.

That didn't stop graphic novel purists criticising Snyder for removing the infamous psychic squid sequence from the comic, and replacing it with Dr. Manhattan, who the world becomes convinced has gone rogue.

Why It's Wrong: Snyder was absolutely right to do this, because there's no way in hell a mainstream movie audience would ever buy the arrival of the squid, especially given how difficult it would be to convincingly render via CGI.

Snyder instead simplified things by exploiting the world's already established anti-superhero sentiment and have humanity unite against Manhattan.

It's not as wilfully jarring as the squid's arrival, sure, but not everything is made to translate from one medium to another, and say what you will about Snyder, but he absolutely made the right call here.
