9 Things To Expect From Lord And Miller's Star Wars Han Solo Movie

1. Relief From The Main Franchise's Darker Tone

Perhaps Disney looked at their upcoming Star Wars slate - an apparently fairly intense Episode VII, 'heist movie' Rogue One, a spin-off about Boba Fett, the universe's most notorious assassin - and realised they could go in for something lighter. If nothing else, the directors they've hired for the first character spin-off hints that the Han Solo movie will be relieved of that darker tone.

It's not just that Lord and Miller are comedy directors - these guys make it their business to make feelgood films, free of the kind of dark tone that has become popular in Hollywood blockbusters. Their films so far have not been free of conflict - they're smart enough to understand how films need it - and there's been nothing to suggest they won't be able to handle a good Star Wars villain well.

That said, Lord and Miller always choose to end on a high note. There'll be no doomy, Empires Strikes Back-style cliffhanger in the Han Solo movie - instead, the film's directors will be aiming to make something that is, ultimately, fun.
