9 Times Authors Disavowed Adaptations Of Their Work
7. Ronald Shusett - Alien
Although Alien is considered primarily as the brainchild of Ridley Scott, co-creator Ronald Shusett has made his displeasure with the third and fourth installments in the franchise clear, but it appears his quarrel lies mainly with Prometheus. From these opinions, you can probably tell that Shusett is a man of the people.
Despite Scott being quite open that Prometheus was going to have next to nothing to do with the stories told in the first Alien movies, Shusett heavily criticized the film for being the antithesis of everything they worked on in Alien.
Shusett argued that while the enjoyment of Alien came from it being a "nail-biter", Prometheus was merely "talky and pretentious". Perhaps the most stunning condemnation of the movie is his outright saying that it was a disappointment and that the series has been held back by Scott's tendency to include things that the audience doesn't care about.
Scott is unarguably an ambitious director, but Shusett (and many fans) believe that's precisely why his movies tend to be so hit-or-miss.
