9 Times Authors Disavowed Adaptations Of Their Work

6. Frank Miller - Batman: Year One

Frank Miller, despite being the most famous Batman writer since the character's creation, has never had one of his works truly adapted into a live-action movie. The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One were both made into animated features, but it's for the best that they've been left to themselves.

It's no secret that Batman Begins and The Dark Knight use many of the themes of Miller's work, or that Batman V. Superman falls over itself to show how much it loves The Dark Knight Returns. Despite these homages, Miller dislikes every Batman movie ever made. It's not entirely clear whether or not he means every live-action film, or if he simply cannot stand any effort to take Batman out of the panels.

It doesn't seem to be a personal vendetta, it's just that Miller strongly adheres to what his idea of the Caped Crusader is. Anytime he sees Batman portrayed on the screen, he doesn't think it can be 'his' Batman and considering he's defined the character in many of his works, he has a point.

I wrote two books and a few articles. They're probably okay.
