9 Underrated Stephen King Movies

4. The Night Flier

Carrie 2013
New Line Cinema

A creepy little thriller about a sleazy reporter who chases a killer who may, or may not, be a vampire; given that it’s Stephen King we’re talking about, the ultimate twist won’t surprise you.

What makes The Night Flier work is the main character; a selfish, amoral douche who somehow winds up being kind of likeable too. He's played by character actor Miguel Ferrer in a rare leading man role and he nails it. The movie also does a great job of adapting key moments from the story, and wringing a good bit of tension out of them.

The final confrontation in a blood-soaked airport is a memorable one and leads to a nicely ironic ending. On the downside, The Night Flier lacks visual flair and a brief black and white sequence is downright silly, but the movie has more going for it than it's given credit for; plus the vampire design is pretty damn creepy.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
