9 Unintentionally Cautionary Movie Taglines

2. "In Space, No One Can Hear You Laugh" - The Adventures Of Pluto Nash

The Tagline: "In Space, No One Can Hear You Laugh" There was a time, not so long ago, when Eddie Murphy was popular - in the '80s and '90s, the comedian-turned-screen actor had a string of hits, and was the star of such action-comedy blockbusters as 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop. But the '00s weren't so kind to Mr. Murphy, and a major turning point in public opinion of the man (i.e. from funny to just not) came with The Adventures of Pluto Nash, a comedy so bad that it was nominated for the Worst Comedy of our First 25 Years award at the Razzies. A play on Alien's "In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream," Pluto Nash's tagline, "In Space, No One Can Hear Your Laugh," doesn't work whatsoever, precisely because - when you get past the obvious pun - it seems to be promising zero comedy for your money. It's also spookily prophetic, as next to no one ended up going to actually see the film anyway, making The Adventures of Pluto Nash one of the most notorious box office bombs of all time.
