9 Upcoming Movie Trailers That Are Probably Tricking You

1. It's (Hopefully) Less Generic Than It Looks - The New Mutants

And finally, here's a tricky trailer that's hopefully misrepresenting itself for the "right" reasons.

When the first trailer dropped for The New Mutants, many were taken aback by how closely it resembled a typical, generic horror movie, yet as we've learned recently, this trailer was said to be far away from the movie envisioned by Fox, who balked at the idea of it being strictly a horror film.

The strong social media response to the trailer, however, changed Fox's mind, and they agreed to let director Josh Boone re-shoot significant portions of the movie in order to re-fashion it as a full-out superhero horror film.

Though the re-shoots haven't yet taken place, the hope is that Boone's end product will be miles away from the conventional, lazy genre romp implied by that first trailer.

It makes sense for Fox to market a left-field project like this to the popcorn-munching masses as aggressively as possible, especially if the film winds up with a PG-13 rating as expected.

But hopefully, this will be a case of a studio downplaying a movie's artistic merits in order to maximise its box office viability with those craving more typical horror thrills.

Of course, it's possible the end product will simply be a down-the-line genre romp with predictable jump scares, but given Boone's passion for the project and Fox giving him so much time to "fix" the movie, hopefully that's not the case.

It's probably smart to keep your expectations low either way, though.

What do you make of these upcoming movie trailers? Are they being dishonest or not? Shout it out in the comments!
