9 Upcoming Movie Trailers That Are Probably Tricking You

Don't expect much Nick Fury in Captain Marvel.

Marketing makes the world go round, and that's perhaps no truer than in the film industry, where a successful advertising campaign can mean the difference between $1 billion at the box office and, well, bombing worse than Robin Hood.

Image is everything - even more than the quality of the film itself - and it's well-documented that studios will often go to morally dubious lengths to manipulate audiences into seeing their latest release.

Obviously modern audiences should be smart enough to do the required reading and not just trust a trailer on its own shaky merits, but it's nevertheless a tried-and-tested technique for box office glory. As a result, it's likely that each of these 9 movies is intentionally misleading audiences in the quest for piles of cash.

9. Sophie Turner's Bad American Accent Is Being Hidden - Dark Phoenix

If test screening reports and apparent plot leaks are to be believed, Fox's rather uninspired first trailer for Dark Phoenix is desperately trying to hide the fact the studio has a dud on their hands.

The more nefarious conceit, however, is that the concluding chapter in Fox's X-Men continuity revolves around young mutant Jean Grey. Grey is of course played by Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, who was taken to task in X-Men: Apocalypse for her laughably rough American accent.

The fact that she has just two lines of dialogue in Dark Phoenix's two-minute trailer, despite being the focal character around which the movie revolves, definitely sets off some alarm bells.

Perhaps Fox realises that Turner's accent isn't up to snuff once again and is trying to disguise this as best possible until the film hits cinemas next summer.
