The Movie

An adaptation of Maria Semple's 2012 New York Times Bestseller, centred on a misanthropic woman (Cate Blanchett) who disappears, prompting her daughter (Emma Nelson) to venture off in pursuit.

Richard Linklater (Boyhood) co-writes and directs, while the supporting cast includes Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig, Judy Greer and Laurence Fishburne.

What's Wrong?

Unlike most of the long-delayed movies on this list, Where'd You Go, Bernadette? is an extremely small movie that clearly didn't cost much to make, and without the need for costly CGI, post-production was likely completed rather quickly.

And yet, despite being shot in the summer of 2017, the film won't be releasing until August 16, roughly two years after shooting wrapped.

If the atrociously-edited trailer doesn't fully convey United Artists' contempt for the film, the fact that the release date has been delayed a ridiculous five times from its initial May 11, 2018 date surely clinches it.

Though this certainly doesn't look like it'll be one of Linklater's better movies, given that most of the costs have already been sunk it's baffling that it's taken so damn long to make it to cinemas. Even if it somehow performs well critically, this thing's D.O.A. at the box office.

Do any of these movies have a chance of succeeding? Shout it out in the comments!
