9 War Movie Tricks That Totally Fooled You

2. Joe Estevez Replaced Martin Sheen - Apocalypse Now

Though being a film star is considered something of a dream job, actual movie sets can often be tense, gruelling, and explosive places to be. Apocalypse Now is infamous for this, as there were multiple issues inside and outside the control of those involved, exacerbated by the fact that the shoot lasted over a year longer than it was initially scheduled.

One such struggle came between star Martin Sheen and Francis Ford Coppola. Marlon Brando was notoriously difficult to work with while making Apocalypse Now, but it was Sheen who had such a falling out with the director that someone else had to be brought in when recording the voiceovers.

During the troubled shoot, Sheen suffered a heart attack, and so his brother, Joe Estevez, was brought in as a body double for three months. During that time, he and Coppola got to know each other, and so when Sheen wouldn't record his lines, his brother was called yet again.

As Estevez explains in the video above, and as you can hear for yourself, Joe Estevez and Martin Sheen sound eerily similar when speaking, even taking into consideration the fact that they are brothers. So it is no surprise that Joe could be used as a voice double without causing the film's already shambolic production any more trouble.
