96. Speed (1994) - Jan De Bont

Speed (1994) - Jan De BontA young cop must save the passengers of a bus that has a bomb set to explode if the bus goes below 50 MPH. Speed is the ultimate high concept action thriller which delivers one of the most exicting two hours you will ever have with a movie. The plot is so simple and straight forward that you are gripped from the get go and as the situation gets more desperate for the characters, your viewing enjoyment grows. Keanu Reeves probably gives the performance of his career in this movie (although he will obviously be remembered more for The Matrix) in a role which he gave character, charm and fantastic intensity. Dennis Hopper plays one of the 90's great villains as Howard Payne, an insane aged bomber who seems to have his whole evil plan worked out perfectly. Speed takes alot from Die Hard and just like that movie is so damn rewatchable. Many times I've caught it on TV and only wanted to watch maybe 15 mins, but every time I end up watching the whole thing!
