A Quiet Place Review: 9 Ups & 1 Down

1. It's Surprisingly Visceral For A PG-13 Movie

A Quiet Place may be rated 15 in the UK, but it's clearly on the lower end of that rating considering it's rated PG-13 in the U.S., which is of course hugely restrictive in terms of adult content, and as far as this movie is concerned in particular, blood.

However, watching the movie you'd be hard-pressed to guess it was a PG-13, because the intensity level is so high and sustained that it never once feels neutered or trimmed down for cynical financial reasons.

There are only brief spurts of blood-letting throughout the film, but Krasinski's decision to cut away from the more brutal moments and leave them to percolate in the audience's mind is ultimately far more unpleasant and, yes, horrifying.

There are no awkward edits to keep the rating down, and the film certainly doesn't feel tame in the slightest. It has not a whiff of compromise, and proves that with sufficient filmmaking skill, more restrictive ratings needn't result in lessened thrills.
