10. Mass Effect
I was stretching a bit with this one. Here goes. Mass Effect is one of my favourite stories ever. I will say outright that I think it is up there with
Star Wars in great, original (ish) science fiction. For those of you who havent played this game (if you havent, dont finish this article, go and buy it NOW!) it is about the adventures of Commander Shepard. I wont give anything away but you basically start the game on a search and capture mission to bring in a galactic fugitive. After a while the game takes a turn for the sinister and expands into something truly chilling and totally epic. I know Christopher Nolan has never directed true sci-fi. I think this is his chance. There has been talk of a Mass Effect movie for a while now. Most of it has been bad news as the studios seem to only want to commit to a crappy prequel to test the waters. I will never understand this side of Hollywood. Nevertheless Nolan has a proven track record with grounded films that is films based largely on reality and on Earth. I would like to see him slip into something slightly more fantastical just to see what he could do. It would also ensure that the film wouldnt be terrible. Like many fans of the franchise, I care a lot about these characters and dont want to see somebody like Michael Bay or Peter Berg get their hands on it. This movie needs to be made with care and an eye for detail. Can Christopher Nolan make a space opera? I would very much like to find out. At least this way he can live up to all those Kubrick comparisons (sort of).
Who Would Star: Jim Caviezel. He is Jonathan Nolan's star of his hit tv show Persons of Interest and would suit Shepherd down to the ground.
Likelihood as Nolan's Next Movie?: Extreme long shot but wouldn't it be cool?
