Age Of Ultron: 10 Concerns You Should Have About The Avengers Sequel

5. Tony Stark's Role

There will definitely be some people unhappy with Tony Stark€™s role as a benefactor to the Avengers. It has been confirmed that, as S.H.I.E.L.D. no longer exists, Stark finances the superhero group's activities and houses them in Avengers Tower - which was once his own Stark Tower. Does this signal the end for Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Or at least the Robert Downey, Jr./Tony Stark version? Sure, he€™s going to have to come out of retirement to fend off his own creations in this movie, but it's clearly an indication of the beginning of the demise of the character as a whole. People might react badly to that. Can we expect him to have retired indefinitely come the third Avengers movie? When Robert Downey, Jr. is on screen, people want Iron Man - they don't just want a businessman/consultant. Admittedly, this is something that has to be done eventually, as Downey, Jr. isn't getting any younger (he's 49 now) - but to have him purely as Tony Stark could change the entire tone and it would surely be better to keep him as Iron Man until the character is removed from the franchise entirely (at least that's what some people will think).
