Aladdin Trailer Reactions: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The Tone Seems (Mostly) Right

There are undeniable issues with Guy Ritchie's chintzy direction, but for the most part the trailer does seem to aptly reflect the style and tone of the classic animation.

Embodied mostly through Will Smith's lively performance and the sheer epic sweep of the drama and ludicrous fantasy sequences - especially the magic carpet ride - Ritchie might invoke enough of the original film to get away with some of his dodgier filmmaking choices.

There will still be those in the #NotMyAladdin camp, for sure, and the production values could benefit from a boost, but in terms of the vibe it creates, this does feel like a Disney animated movie brought to life.

That's not to say it'll definitely be good, but given how far outside Ritchie's wheelhouse a movie like this is, he does seem to be towing the line.
