Alfred Molina will be investigating THE LODGER

Doc. Ock cast in the Hitchcock remake.

The Lodger has slowly gone through the development stages since it was annouced 12 months ago and finally now we have some casting to report on. Alfred Molina has been cast as the detective who attempts to hunt down a mysterious killer and Hope Davis will play an emotionally troubled landlady who begins to form a bond with her new Lodger. These two storylines will converge to the movie's climax. The role of the Lodger, made famous by Ivor Novello's fantastic energy and expressive eyes all the way back in 1927 has yet to be cast. The film set in modern day Los Angeles will begin shooting next month and has been setup at Stage 6 Films and Sony Acquistions Group which means that unless the movie is specactuarly good, it might not make a theatrical release.

The original Hitchcock film is a terrific and thrilling 85 minute movie but with it being in the silent era, I guess it's understandable why new audiences wouldn't give it the attention it deserves. I guess, I can somewhat see the good in remaking something like this... but if they change the film outright and then release it straight to DVD then it was a completely pointless project.
