...Will Neil Blomkamp's film act a retcon to all (or most) that came before it? Whilst the other films all tried their best to retain a loose sort of continuity, making goofy stuff line cloning a necessity to keep Sigourney Weaver involved, the movie industry has become more accustomed to just straight-up throwing out any stuff they don't like if it's easier. In superhero films especially. The Amazing Spider-Man rebooted the web head's franchise a couple of years after Spider-Man 3, The Incredible Hulk ripped up the Hulk of a couple of years prior to start again, and most recently X-Men: Days Of Future Past was a film-length exercise in wiping out a load of bad movies nobody liked. So perhaps instead of carrying on directly from Alien: Resurrection and bringing back Corporal Hicks using some equally ridiculous cloning nonsense as they did with Ripley, the smart money is on Blomkamp's movie just being a retcon, with the events from Aliens onwards being wiped out, letting them start afresh.
