Blomkamp's concept art also featured Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, the star of the Alien franchise, quite heavily. The actor isn't officially signed onto the project, what with it only being properly announced today, but her involvement with the director's most recent film Chappie suggests that'll soon change. If Ripley does show up, though, which Ripley will audiences be seeing? Alien 3, in case you forgot, is grim from beginning to end. Newt, Bishop and Hicks all bite it (presumably) right at the start, and then it ends with Ripley having unknowingly been implanted with a xenomorph egg all ready to burst forth from her chest chucking herself into some lava, committing suicide whilst presumably ending the Alien race. Alien: Resurrection, meanwhile, lived up to its very literal title by having her cloned, with The Company planning to take the xenomorph out of her in order to keep trying to use it as a weapon.
