Alien 5: Blomkamp's New Pulse Rifle Teases Proximity To Aliens

Further evidence that he's making an Aliens direct sequel?

Despite the fact that news seems to have slowed down behind Ridley Scott's revelations about Alien: Paradise Lost (and possibly because Chappie wasn't exactly adored on release), Neill Blomkamp has reminded everyone that he's still making a new Alien film. The tentatively named Alien 5 (which is still better than Alien: Paradise Lost, as it happens) will include the famous Pulse Rifle made famous by Aliens and the Colonial Marines. That's despite the fact that it was pretty much the worst thing you could use against a foe that exploded into a shower of acid blood when riddled with bullets... Blomkamp revealed the slightly evolved Pulse Rifle on his Instagram... https://instagram.com/p/83mcFbqhBk/?taken-by=neillblomkamp If you were looking to read anything in to the fact that the director is revealing the weapon now, you might be inclined to think it's because the film is being pushed as a direct sequel to Aliens. He has previously said that he wants the film to "feel like it's literally the genetic sibling of Aliens." Thankfully, that means no references to Alien 3 or Resurrection. The design, which is mostly the same in appearance to the original weapon, has a new Rail Interface System (RIS), which allows for the addition of various accessories, including lights and scopes, which don't help to kill xenomorphs in any way, but at least they'll look cool. The film - which will surely get a new name - hasn't got a release window yet, but it is expected to begin filming some time in 2017.
