Alien: Covenant - 10 Big Questions It Needs To Answer
7. How Does The Opening Scene Engineer Fit In?
At the very start of Prometheus, an Engineer ingests a black substance on an unnamed planet. He disintegrates into a nearby water mass, and begins to reassemble into a double-helix DNA-type structure. Ridley Scott then cuts to future Scotland, and never bothers to explain the previous scene. What the heck was that all about? The simplest explanation would be that this Engineer was spreading life to Earth, millennia before the main events of the film. But Ridley Scott has since said that the planet from this scene doesnt have to be Earth, suggesting that this unnamed character could actually slot into the story somewhere else. Some clarification in Alien: Covenant would be very welcome. If the audience are meant to believe that these beings created humankind within the Alien universe - a fairly ginormous plot detail - Scott will need to be a bit more clear about that.
