A basic tent of filmmaking is having characters respond to situations as people would in real life. Otherwise, the viewer's suspension of disbelief is already on shaky ground, and Covenant suffers terribly here.

There are so many scenarios where the Covenant's crew should be alarmed or at least suspicious: being rescued by an android with extreme similarities to Walter, David's overall creepiness, the Engineer graveyard, or even just expressing sheer awe at the crashed Engineer ship.

Scott never lets the film breathe or his characters take in what's going on, and so there's a weird feeling of going through the motions much of the time, which doesn't make the whole dumb characters argument go down much easier.
