Alien: Covenant - 18 WTF Moments

8. The Franchise Becomes Self-Parody

Once David's chestburster explodes out of Oram, it looks directly at David and imitates him by holding its arms above its head in exceptionally goofy fashion. If you're a Mel Brooks fan, there's a good chance this scene reminded you of the hilarious Alien parody sequence from Spaceballs, where John Hurt gets chest-bursted once again, and when the newborn xeno emerges, it puts on a top hat, grabs a cane and starts dancing to Tin Pan Alley's "Hello! Ma Baby".

This is the point the Alien franchise has now arrived at, unintentionally referencing its own parodies and in effect becoming a self-parody. It's hard to fathom how Scott let something so daft-looking derail an otherwise brutal, dead-serious scene.
