Alien: Covenant - Everything You Need To Know

2. It's About A New Group Of People

Not only is Shaw missing and are we jumping well ahead in time, but for Alien: Covenant none of the crew of the Prometheus are even the main characters. Once again according to the official synopsis, we'll be following "the crew of the colony ship Covenant", who are diverted from their mission to a far-off planet by the discovery of David's "paradise". This whacks more than a little of the initial situation that befell the crew of the Nostromo in the original Alien, and is a far cry from the scientific boundary pushing of the Prometheus mission. Not only suggesting a story more akin to what long-standing fans expect, it hints at an evolution over the course of the trilogy as we move from idealised sci-fi to the more grimy world we first saw in 1979. Of course, like Prometheus, this seems to be another double meaning title - despite being the moniker of the central ship, that movie's naming was clearly meant to invoke the Greek myth. And here, while it is a colony ship, I'd bet there'll be some form of secret deal relating to the alien and Weyland, setting up all the corporate betrayal inherent in the later movies. Or maybe a Halo crossover. Nah, probably not.
