One thing we can glean with some semblance of certainty is that Alien: Covenant isn't the Prometheus 2 many expected. The general thinking was that we'd get to see Shaw and David, a seriously animosity-driven odd couple, jetting off through the stars in an alien space craft looking for the origin of our species. But the fact that the film's set up involves David alone on a new world suggests we've jumped right past all that to the culmination of the mission and further in the timeline, nearing the events of Alien. This makes perfect sense if this is indeed going to be a existential trilogy leading directly into the internalised Alien, meaning we're gradually progressing to the end state of affairs, and also means Covenant is less likely to get bogged down with what came before. The big question looming is if this planet is the Engineer's homeworld. The description of David's new home as "uncharted paradise" certainly seems to fit that, although given the malleability of this property it's far too early to make any assumptions beyond what's explicitly stated.
