Alien: Covenant Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. It Sets Up A Potentially Fascinating Sequel

No ending spoilers here, but the finale does a great job of laying the groundwork for a fascinating sequel, apparently set to be titled Alien: Awakening.

Now, it's worth remembering that Prometheus set up a terrific sequel idea with Shaw and David exploring the Engineer homeworld together, but this obviously never panned out, so there aren't any guarantees that Awakening will directly follow on from Covenant.

Scott himself has even intimated in the past that Awakening may take place between Prometheus and Covenant, which honestly feels like a huge mistake and needless act of backpedaling.

Considering the way in which Covenant ends, the next movie needs to follow its big dangling plot thread to its natural eventuality. Anything else would be stupid, because for all of its flaws, Covenant at least plants some thought-provoking seeds for future movies.
