Alien: Covenant Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Third Act Feels Incredibly Rushed

The first two acts are incredibly well-paced, taking their time to soak in these characters and this world, that the final 30-40 minutes feels immensely hurried by comparison.

Without spoiling what happens, there are a number of set-pieces and pivotal incidents that occur in quick succession, and it honestly feels like the film could've easily been another 20-or-so minutes longer, even if only to allow scenes to breathe a little more and make it not feel quite so back-loaded.

Some may suggest that it results in one Hell of an action-packed third reel, but the better Alien movies have always been more about suspense and the downtime in-between the action. Here it feels like Ridley Scott got a little overzealous, or perhaps Fox requested that he bring the runtime down to a tight two hours.
