All The Fox Film Franchises Disney Now Owns

Rewind ten years, and surely no one would have thought we'd still be listing this one as a major franchise for Fox. While the 1968 original is an undisputed classic, and the ensuing 1970s series has an enduring cult status, Tim Burton's 2001 reboot was a monumental misfire.

However, like a phoenix from the ashes, the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy - Rise, Dawn and War - proved to be among the most surprising and powerful blockbusters of recent years, thanks in no small part to the outstanding CGI work on the pivotal apes, and a central performance from Andy Serkis which is so damn good it even puts his work as Gollum in the shade.

While the recent War for the Planet of the Apes was ostensibly a trilogy closer, there's certainly scope for the franchise to continue; and as the revived trilogy made a collective $1.68 billion at the box office, we have to assume Disney would be open to more sequels, even if the tone of the franchise is a bit bleaker than your standard House of Mouse fare.
