While originally a research and development programme for the Ministry of Defence operating out of Department H, the dynamic and purpose of Alpha Flight was shifted dramatically after James Hudson took inspiration from the creation of the Fantastic Four.

Seeing a team devoted to defending the United States of America, Hudson chose to shift Alpha Flight into something similar north of the border. The team's primary directive became the search for and development of powered and gifted beings in Canada. Almost reminiscent of Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr's task in X-Men: First Class.

The likes of Marrina, Puck, and Box were drafted into the team, joining Aurora, Northstar, and Hudson himself, as Alpha Flight established itself as a true super team.

With the rumours of Alpha Flight's debut in the MCU coming at a time when excitement for the Fantastic Four couldn't be higher, this could be a ready made way of linking the teams together. Should Marvel's first family be established before Alpha Flight, the comic narrative could be adapted for the MCU, having the latter break away from the government and the Accords after seeing the former's success in the US.
