WINNER: Blade Runner 2049

If Roger Deakins doesn't finally win the Best Cinematography Oscar for Blade Runner 2049 - on his 14th nomination no less - the Internet is going to implode.

Though Deakins does face strong competition with Dunkirk's Hoyte van Hoytema in particular, the narrative around Deakins' past snubbing makes it more likely he will, indeed, finally triumph. It's going to be one hell of a moment, and he totally deserves it.

This is always a loaded category, but we sprung for some left-field choices that the Academy ignored, with The Florida Project's gorgeously evocative lensing and A Ghost Story's hauntingly boxed-in visuals.

RUNNERS-UP:

2. Dunkirk

3. The Florida Project

4. The Shape of Water

5. A Ghost Story
