WINNER: Suspiria

The Academy typically only nominates three movies in this category, but it wasn't exactly a challenge filling out five, so here it is.

Vice's transformation of Christian Bale into Dick Cheney was absolutely deserving of a nod, and the staggeringly lifelike facial transformations in Border were also well worth the nomination.

Mary Queen of Scots did a solid makeup job but never quite allowed Margot Robbie's beauty to disappear underneath her facial disfigurement get-up, so it doesn't get a pass.

The category is rounded out, then, by Stan & Ollie for its incredible work to make John C. Reilly resemble Oliver Hardy, and the various ludicrous wigs, hairstyles and powder-faces present throughout The Favourite.

But our winner? That was always going to be Suspiria, if only for the mind-boggling prosthetics used to transform Tilda Swinton into an old man.

It is frighteningly lifelike at all times, even when the character is stripped naked in the third act. That it wasn't even nominated by the Academy is just ludicrous.
