The Amazing Spider-Man: 10 Spidey Movies That Must Be Made Next

2. Spider-Man: Reign (2028)

The enduring success of futuristic spin-offs like Old Man Logan and The Dark Knight Returns makes the prospect of any comic book movie studio ignoring linear time progression to jump to the future an irresistible one - even if it is somewhat unlikely, given the need to entirely recast established characters. Spider-Man: Reign is the comic book event that holds the most potential for Spidey, allowing not only for a completely fresh, pallet-cleansing story-arc but also something that would feel entirely different from everything else in the franchise. Comic Book Reference Point: Spider-Man: Reign It may not be the most critically adored story arc, but the story, penned by Kaare Andrews is an arresting re-do of Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, offers a look at Peter Parker that is entirely different to the traditional image of the youthful hero swinging effortlessly through New York. In Reign, his youth is gone, and Spider-Man is retired, but a sinister plot from the mayoral office - uncovered by a Citizen Kane-like J Jonah Jameson of all people - inspires Parker to put his costume back on, and to take down a new Venom threat, backed up by a senior Sinister Six who are forced into the employ of the mayor. This is nothing like the Spider-Man anyone has seen on screen - he is haunted by hallucinations of his dead wife, Aunt and Uncle) and the arc concentrates on Parker's regeneration.
