The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 10 Things It Did Right

9. Andrew Garfield Proves He's The Definitive Peter Parker

Spider-Man fans weren't sure that Sony had made the right choice when they first cast Andrew Garfield - perhaps best known for his scene-stealing role in David Fincher's The Social Network at the time - as the new Peter Parker, but The Amazing Spider-Man proved he was a capable fit for the character. If that movie established Andrew Garfield as a good Peter Parker, then, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the movie that cements him as a great one. Funny, wise-cracking, geeky, awkward and lovable all at once, he nails the role brilliantly. To re-iterate: Garfield was a more than ample Parker in the first flick, but here he really feels suited to the role, almost in that "born to play" sort of way. Almost effortlessly, Garfield manages to hit the right tone for every single scene - if he needs to brood, he broods; if he needs to be silly, he can be silly. The great thing about this is that the tonal shifts don't feel at odds with one another. Somehow, Garfield reels in all these traits and makes them feel whole. So sorry, Tobey Maguire - it's safe to say that we've finally found our definitive Peter Parker.
